Lake Helen
Meadows, mountains, and a hidden alpine gem
Service Description
Helen Lake is one of Banff’s most scenic (and underrated) alpine hikes. Starting from the Icefields Parkway, this trail takes you through lush forest and into wide-open alpine meadows with jaw-dropping views of the surrounding peaks, glaciers, and valleys. At the end, you’ll find a peaceful turquoise lake tucked into a high cirque basin—perfect for a snack break, photos, and soaking in the silence of the Rockies. The hike is approximately 12 km round trip with about 455 m of elevation gain, and typically takes 4–5 hours to complete at a relaxed pace. While this trail doesn’t require scrambling, it does climb steadily and brings you well above the treeline—so you’ll want good footwear, layers, and a camera for the endless views. Your guide will share insights into the geology, wildflowers, and wildlife that make this hike such a rewarding experience. This is an ideal adventure for hikers looking for alpine beauty without technical terrain—and a peaceful escape from the busier trails around Lake Louise. What's included: - Pick-up and drop-off at a designated meeting location - Coffee or hot chocolate upon request (perfect for summit sips) - Hiking poles are available if needed - Expert guide with local knowledge and certified safety training - A fun, relaxed atmosphere—and unforgettable mountain memories
